Looking to give yourself a scare or explore the paranormal as Halloween approaches? Check out these local events:
--- Scott Butcher hosts a Spooky York tour departing from Continental Square at 7 p.m. Friday. Learn the ghost stories and legends tucked away in the city corners during a 90-minute walking tour. The program ends at The York Emporium used book and curiosity shop, 343 W. Market St., with refreshments and a presentation about recent ghost-hunting investigations at the shop. Tickets: $10. --- The playhouse holds many secrets, but it will share some with brave visitors during the Ghost Talk and Tour at York Little Theatre, 27 S. Belmont St., Spring Garden Township. Hear the stories and meet the ghosts if you dare. The chills begin at 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday with an additional midnight tour Saturday night. Tickets: $5. --- Uncover the Mysteries of York Town on a walking tour led by historian Georg Sheets at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, though downtown York. Ghost stories, legends, folklore and more will be discussed during the architectural exploration. The tour leaves from the White Rose Business Center lobby at 1 E. Market St. on Continental Square. --- The old York Iron Co. mine is the site for a Halloween Ghost Walk at P. Joseph Raab County Park off Hoff Road in North Codorus Township. Participants will walk about a mile over hilly terrain from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31. Bring a flashlight and catch a glimpse of the 19th-century miners still hard at work. --- Spoutwood Farm throws its first All Hallow's Eve Masquerade Ball from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center, 50 N. George St., York. The evening includes light refreshments and a cash bar, a costume contest, a silent auction, tarot card readings, bellydancing by Mortifera and music by the Gypsy Nomads. --- And, looking ahead to 2010, "Ghost Hunters" fans can take heart. Although this week's show with Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson is sold out, the stars of "Ghost Hunters International" will visit the Pullo Family Performing Arts Center in February.
