Looking to give yourself a scare or explore the paranormal as Halloween approaches? Check out these local events:

--- Scott Butcher hosts a Spooky York tour departing from Continental Square at 7 p.m. Friday. Learn the ghost stories and legends tucked away in the city corners during a 90-minute walking tour. The program ends at The York Emporium used book and curiosity shop, 343 W. Market St., with refreshments and a presentation about recent ghost-hunting investigations at the shop. Tickets: $10. Information: 843-0320, info@historicyork.org or 465 Prospect St., York.

--- The playhouse holds many secrets, but it will share some with brave visitors during the Ghost Talk and Tour at York Little Theatre, 27 S. Belmont St., Spring Garden Township. Hear the stories and meet the ghosts if you dare. The chills begin at 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday with an additional midnight tour Saturday night. Tickets: $5. Information: www.ylt.org or 854-5715.

--- Uncover the Mysteries of York Town on a walking tour led by historian Georg Sheets at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, though downtown York. Ghost stories, legends, folklore and more will be discussed during the architectural exploration. The tour leaves from the White Rose Business Center lobby at 1 E. Market St. on Continental Square. Pre-registration is required. To register, call 849-2331 or e-mail jsheffer@downtownyorkpa.com; include your name, phone number, and the number of people in your party. Payment will be collected at check-in. Tickets: $10 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under.

--- The old York Iron Co. mine is the site for a Halloween Ghost Walk at P. Joseph Raab County Park off Hoff Road in North Codorus Township. Participants will walk about a mile over hilly terrain from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31. Bring a flashlight and catch a glimpse of the 19th-century miners still hard at work. Pre-registration is required for the free event. Information: 428-1961 or www.yorkcountyparks.org.

--- Spoutwood Farm throws its first All Hallow's Eve Masquerade Ball from 6 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center, 50 N. George St., York. The evening includes light refreshments and a cash bar, a costume contest, a silent auction, tarot card readings, bellydancing by Mortifera and music by the Gypsy Nomads. The event is intended for ages 18 and up. Proceeds benefit the nonprofit farm. Tickets: $25-$30. Information: 961-0629 or events@spoutwood.org.

--- Take a jump to the left during "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" showing at 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at the Capitol Theatre, 50 N. George St., York. Dry props are encouraged for this audience-participation cult classic. Experience the wacky R-rated flick with an onstage cast. Tickets: $10. Information: www.strandcapitol.org or 846-1111.

--- For additional family-friendly scares, try Spooktacular Science at the Whitaker Center, 222 Market St., Harrisburg, or Hersheypark in the Dark and Creatures of the Night at Hersheypark and ZooAmerica in Hershey. Visit www.whitakercenter.org or call (717) 214-ARTS for details on Spooktacular Science events. Visit www.hersheypa.com or call 1-800-HERSHEY for details on Hersheypark and ZooAmerica events.

--- And, looking ahead to 2010, "Ghost Hunters" fans can take heart. Although this week's show with Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson is sold out, the stars of "Ghost Hunters International" will visit the Pullo Family Performing Arts Center in February. Tickets for the Feb. 25 show featuring Robb Demarest and Dustin Pari are $29.50 to $45 and go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Monday online at www.pullocenter.psu.edu, by phone at 505-8900 or at the box office, 1031 Edgecomb Ave., Spring Garden Township.
